Micro-Needling with Sculptra: Best Way to Boost Your Collagen

At Skincare Austin, we’re all about combining our favorite treatments in innovative ways for your maximum benefit. One such dynamic treatment combination is micro-needling plus Sculptra.

This treatment works to both fill in lines and wrinkles and to stimulate the body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue, thereby creating a fuller, more youthful appearance. For someone who isn’t yet ready to commit to a surgical procedure, but who seeks a more youthful appearance, this is a great step-down option.

Skincare Austin licensed aestheticians Jenni Phipps and Diana Haeg, who have both been performing this combined treatment for several years, say they recommend it to anyone who desires fresher, more glowy skin.

“We’re tilling the garden with the micro-needling and adding the fertilizer with the Sculptra,” Jenni Phipps RN says. “The Sculptra really amplifies the effects of micro-needling and offers results for months to come. It’s that cumulative effect that we’re after.”

What Is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling is an advanced form of dermal restructuring that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate collagen production at the cellular level. This stimulates new cell growth during the healing process, resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin. It also helps reduce fine lines and improve the appearance of wrinkles by stimulating the formation of new collagen fibers. The results can visibly improve texture, tone, firmness and elasticity.

What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra, a facial injectable made from microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, is FDA-approved for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds (i.e., smile lines), contour deficiencies, and other facial wrinkles.

What To Expect

First, we’ll apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area for 30 minutes. This will minimize any discomfort. We then cleanse off the numbing cream.

We apply Sculptra onto the skin as a topical serum before passing the micro-needling device over the treatment area. The micro-needling creates channels in the skin, stimulating collagen, and the Sculptra is driven into those channels.

We recommend three to six treatments at one-month intervals for an improvement in overall skin health.

Who Can Benefit?

This treatment is great for patients 18 to 85. It results in overall glowy, plumper skin over time, helping to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Since it helps with skin texture, this treatment has had great results for our patients with acne scars.

This treatment is not recommended for clients who have rosacea or active acne.
