Neurotoxin FAQs

Neurotoxins, also known as neuromodulators, work by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, the chemical messenger that stimulates our muscles to contract. When the signal to contract is blocked, muscle movement within the area treated with a neurotoxin is decreased. We offer three different types of neurotoxins for cosmetic treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. Their brand names are Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau.

Patients can expect their neurotoxin treatment to last anywhere between 2 to 4 months; however, there may be subtle differences in onset of action and length of efficacy due to multiple factors. Your aesthetic provider will help you determine during your consultation which dose of neurotoxin and brand is the best choice for you!

After a neurotoxin appointment:

  • Do not lie down for 4 hours immediately after your appointment.
  • Do not exercise for 24 hours after your appointment.

Following these instructions will prevent the unwanted spread of neurotoxin.
