Sculptra Aesthetic™ is a facial injectable that is FDA approved for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds (i.e., smile lines), contour deficiencies, and other facial wrinkles. Sculptra is made from microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid — the same material used in absorbable sutures — and has been widely employed as a cosmetic enhancement in Europe for years.

Treatment

Sculptra, also known as the “liquid facelift”, works by both filling in lines and wrinkles and by stimulating the body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue, thereby creating a fuller, more youthful appearance.

Procedure

During the Sculptra procedure, a patient is numbed with topical numbing cream and given a series of injections in the desired area. The material used in Sculptra®, poly-L-lactic acid – a synthetic version of the substance that is naturally produced by muscles during exercise, has been used in plastic and reconstructive surgery for more than 20 years.

Results are natural-looking and appear gradually over a few weeks’ time. Sculptra is the only facial injectable approved by the FDA to last more than two years.

Precautions

Immediately following a treatment session, you may experience redness, swelling, pain, or bruising. These conditions usually disappear in a few hours to a few days.

Side effects may include the delayed appearance of small bumps under the skin in the treated area. Generally, these bumps are not visible and may be noticed only when pressing on the treated area.

No skin testing is required, but you should not use Sculptra™ if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Let us know if you have ever had facial cold sores. Your doctor may prescribe a medication to minimize their recurrence.
