While visions of your swimsuit-clad self lounging poolside may seem to be a distant mirage in the midst of colder months, late winter and early spring are actually the ideal time to begin the journey towards your most confident swimsuit silhouette at Central Texas Dermatology & Plastic Surgery.

Why should I plan now to be swimsuit-confident by summertime?

First and foremost, quality takes time. Our office offers a concierge approach that puts a premium on privacy, respect, individualism and access to me and my staff. If you’re just dipping your toe in the water and considering plastic surgery, call 512-448-2777 and speaking to Amy, our patient care coordinator is an excellent first step. Then, when you meet with me for your consult, I will take the time to learn about your unique journey and specific concerns. This all comes before we take any measurements, stand before the mirror together and decide upon a plan of action!

Secondly, your safety and healing are paramount. During your cosmetic consultation, we’ll discuss your particular areas of concern and discuss how to get the results you want. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and I think it’s really important to seek out an expert who is board certified. There are many “cosmetic surgeons” in our field who have a nice website, office, and social media presence but don’t have the training required to sit for Plastic Surgery Boards. During your consultation you’ll have the opportunity to review before-and-afters and I’ll make recommendations based upon my training and experience. Before we proceed, you’ll complete a full medical history and physical to ensure we’re safe to proceed and if any further studies are necessary my office will line those up for you. When we begin working together, I ensure you’re prepared and understand what to expect, and then I deliver based on our shared expectations.

These things require time and preparation, so if you want to look best in the summertime you need to start planning now. From start to finish, anticipate a minimum of two to three months from the time you make your call to the office to the time you have good post-operative healing and can engage in summer activities like swimming and being out in the sunshine without restrictions. So if you begin your journey with me in late winter or early spring, that puts you well on the road to your confident swimsuit silhouette by summertime!

What are some common insecurities patients express when it comes to feeling confident in a swimsuit?

Insecurities are entirely dependent on the individual. I would say that people who have fluctuated in their weight over the years, gone through health problems, pregnancy, and- especially now- many of my patients have dealt with pandemic weight gain. There are a lot of reasons somebody may not feel comfortable in their own skin. In my office, we don’t judge you based on your journey or hold your insecurities against you. Instead we come up with a strategy to get you back on track and help you be the best, most confident version of yourself.

Among my patients preparing for swimsuit season, the most commonly requested plastic surgery procedures include:

  • Liposuction (Lipo)
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Breast Surgery (Depending on the patient’s goals, could include some combination of lift/reduction or augmentation.)

In this month’s blog post, I’m going to answer some of your most frequently asked questions about liposuction at Central Texas Dermatology & Plastic Surgery! In the months to come, I’ll discuss Tummy Tuck and Breast Surgery in more detail here on the blog.

If you’re interested in learning more about how I can help you achieve your swimsuit-season confidence goals, I’d love to begin the discussion with you. Call (512) 448-2777 to schedule your consultation.

Liposuction

Who is the ideal candidate for liposuction?

The ideal candidate for liposuction is someone whose weight is pretty stable. They may carry a few extra pounds in an area they’d like to target such as the thighs, abdomen, love handles or back. If you’re planning to lose more than 15 to 20 pounds in the immediate future, it may be better to wait.

What can I expect from my liposuction procedure?

I perform your liposuction surgery at an AAAASF-accredited surgery center adjacent to Central Texas Dermatology & Plastic Surgery. Typically patients are put to sleep with general anesthesia but this can be calibrated depending on the patient’s preference and the extent of the planned procedure.

When you wake up following your liposuction treatment, you’ll be wearing compression dressings. I provide you with my cell phone number so if you need anything during these earliest stages of recovery, you’ll be able to reach me at any time!

The next day, I’ll see you for a safety check. At this time, we’ll change your compression dressing and into a clean compression garment that you’ll wear extensively for the next six weeks.

What will my recovery time be following liposuction?

With liposuction, you may remain swollen in that area for an extended period of time. I recommend use of compression garments and lymphatic massage to improve your outcome and speed your recovery time. It’s also important once you’ve gotten through the early healing period to really work on an overall balanced lifestyle that includes a clean and nutrient dense diet and regular exercise to help maintain your results.

What results can I anticipate from my liposuction procedure?

You can expect to be 60 to 80 percent healed in six weeks time. It can take up to a full year to see the full skin tightening and fat reduction results from your liposuction treatment.
