Sculptra™
If you are concerned about overall sagging or hollowness in your face — rather than specific wrinkles — you should look into Sculptra. Sculptra restores fullness to larger areas, dramatically improving wrinkles, folds, depressions, and scars.
Microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid ™
the material used in absorbable sutures ™
work deep within the dermis, providing a structure to stimulate and reinforce your body's collagen production. This new collagen fills in depressions and produces smoother, more youthful contours. The results are natural looking and enduring, lasting up to two years.
Dr. Ramsdell is one of an elite group of physicians chosen to train in Europe (where Sculptra first gained prominence) and introduce this breakthrough treatment in the U.S. Dr. Ramsdell now shares his expertise as a Sculptra lecturer and trainer and as an experienced practitioner.
Conditions
FACIAL SAGGING OR HOLLOW AREAS Due to aging, acne scars, or loss of localized fat tissue.
FACIAL WRINKLES AND FOLDS Deep folds (smile lines) between the nose and mouth, "marionette lines" framing your mouth, and chin wrinkles.
The Treatment
We give you a topical or local anesthetic to deaden the treatment area, then inject small amounts of Sculptra into the skin with an ultrafine needle. You may return to your daily activities immediately after treatment.
The Schedule
We typically perform three to five treatments, approximately one month apart, to achieve the desired results. You will see noticeable improvement immediately after each injection. These are temporary results caused by an accumulation of water.
Soon your body begins to generate its own collagen, and your true results build gradually over approximately two to three months. These results last as long as two years. Some patients like to get a touch-up treatment during this time to refresh their looks.
Precautions
You may experience redness, swelling, pain, or bruising after treatment. These conditions usually disappear in a few hours or a few days. You may develop small, invisible bumps under the skin at the treatment site. These often resolve on their own.
You will not need a skin test prior to treatment, but you should not use Sculptra if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
If you have ever had facial cold sores the doctor may want to prescribe a medication to minimize the risk of an outbreak. You should not have a Sculptra treatment while you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area.
