Restylane® | Perlane®

If you want to experiment with facial fillers before commiting to a long-lasting treatment, Restylane and Perlane are excellent choices. Like Juvéderm, these are hyaluronic acids (HAs), similar to the substance your own body produces to absorb moisture and give the skin volume and fullness. A few quick injections around facial wrinkles, folds, and scars will fill out and perk up your appearance instantly and last six months or more.

Restylane and Perlane are the same, except for the size of the particles they contain. Restylane is formulated for finer work close to the surface of the skin. Perlane, with larger particles, works at a deeper level.

Conditions

FACIAL WRINKLES AND FOLDS Moderate to severe smile lines, "lipstick lines" above the upper lip, marionette lines, and lines at the corners of the mouth.

The Treatment

Treatment is fast and simple. We apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area and, if necessary, administer a nerve block. Once the area is deadened we use an ultrafine needle to inject tiny amounts of the filler.

Results are immediate, and you are free to go on with your day right away.

The Schedule

Like all HA products, Restylane and Perlane are eventually absorbed into the body. When you notice the results fading, usually after six months, call us to schedule a refresher treatment. At this time you may also want to consider a longer-lasting filler such as Radiesse.

Precautions

Side effects may include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. These conditions should disappear in less than a week.

To minimize the risk of bleeding and bruising you should avoid aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St John's Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment. Let us know if you have ever had cold sores on your face; the doctor may want to prescribe a medication to minimize the risk of their recurrence. If you have sores, pimples, a rash, hives, cysts, or infection around the treatment area you should wait until these conditions are completely healed before undergoing treatment.

Restylane and Perlane contain no animal proteins, so you will not need a skin test for allergies prior to treatment.

If you have bad allergies or a bleeding disorder you should not use these fillers. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under 18 years of age you should not use these products.
