Lip Lift

Lip Lift

Aging lips tend to get longer and thinner. A surgical lip lift will remove excess skin and roll the upper lip outward for a perkier appearance.

Conditions

AGING UPPER LIPS Elongated lips, lips that have lost volume, or lips with excess skin that covers the teeth, resulting in "denture smile."

The Treatment

In a quick procedure using local anesthesia, the doctor removes excess skin from the upper lip, just under the nose. The incision is closed with very fine sutures, and in 30 days the resulting scar is barely perceptible.

The Schedule

The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. You should refrain from excessive stretching of the mouth and lips for several days after the surgery. Your sutures will be removed seven to 10 days after surgery.

Precautions

Possible risks and complications include bleeding, bruising, hematoma, infection, scarring, numbness, underresection, overresection, and abnormal lip contour.

Lip Lift

Smile Lift

Does your biggest smile look like a frown? Drooping skin at the corners of your mouth is a condition that even a full face lift can't correct. Now a relatively new procedure targets just these problem areas.

The name is a mouthful: "Surgical Correction of the Frowning Mouth," " Corners of the Mouth Lift," "Frown Correction Surgery," "Frown Lift," "Smile Lift." Whatever you call it, it's happy news for unintentionally frowning faces.

Conditions

AGING Mouth Drooping skin or downturned corners of the mouth, "marionette" lines.

The Treatment

We perform this procedure in an operating suite at Central Texas Dermatiology. As you look in the mirror, the doctor marks the treatment area and shows how much improvement you can expect. We then numb the area with a local anesthetic.

The doctor makes incisions directly on the upper lip line and slightly above, and removes the excess skin. After the incisions are closed with a few sutures you are ready to go home for recovery. The procedure takes approximately one hour.

The Schedule

You should minimize talking and moving your mouth for 24 hours after the procedure. You will have a follow-up appointment with the doctor approximately one week after treatment, and your sutures will be removed at this time.

Precautions

Redness should fade gradually over a period of months. The incisions are only a centimeter long, but some degree of scarring is inevitable. Scars will be less noticeable on lighter skin. We can improve the appearance of scarring with dermal fillers such as Juvéderm or Sculptra, or with laser treatments such as ActiveFX or Laser Resurfacing.
