GentleLASE®
*
When you want to get rid of hair permanently, laser hair removal is your best option. Four to six treatments with our GentleLASE device will eliminate up to 90 percent of your hair. Once we kill the follicle it will never grow back.
Conditions
UNWANTED HAIR Primarily hair on the face, back, bikini area, arms, underarms, and legs.
The Treatment
GentleLASE works by zapping your hair with heat. We may start with a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Then we use the GentleLASE device to direct a targeted beam of light through your skin into the follicles of the hair below the surface. The laser beam is converted to heat, which destroys the follicle but leaves the surrounding skin unharmed.
The Schedule
It usually takes four to six treatments, at four- to six-week intervals, to kill 80 to 90 percent of your hair. Facial hair should be treated every four weeks, underarm hair every five weeks, and leg hair every six weeks.
BEFORE GENTLELASE
Six weeks before treatment Avoid the sun.We cannot treat tanned skin because of the high risk of complications. Also refrain from bleaching, tweezing, and waxing.
Four to six weeks before treatment If you have a darker skin type, begin applying the topical bleaching cream the doctor will prescribe.
One week before treatment Stop using self-tanning products.
Several days before treatment Stop shaving.
One day before treatment If you have a history of fever blisters in the treatment area, begin the antiviral medication the doctor will prescribe.
AFTER GENTLELASE
Avoid the sun and use sunscreen at all times You must protect your skin throughout the course of treatment to avoid getting dark spots.
Immediately after treatment Apply cool packs to the skin to reduce discomfort. Swelling is unusual, but if it occurs it should last no more than a few hours..
Five to 14 days after treatment Your hair begins shedding. Just wipe it off with a wet cloth.
Six weeks after treatment Do not wax, tweeze, or use electrolysis during this period. You may shave and use depilatories.
When you notice new hair growth Your hair should not regrow within three weeks of treatment. New hair on your upper body may start appearing four to six weeks after treatment. On your lower body it may take two or three months for new growth to appear.
Precautions
The ideal candidate for laser hair removal has pale skin and dark hair. Darker-skinned individuals will require more treatments and are at a greater risk for side effects. Side effects may include pain, redness and swelling, bruising, white spots, dark spots, blistering, scarring, and infection.
Please inform us in your initial consultation about any use of Accutane®
. You must wait six to 12 months after you stop taking Accutane before having laser hair removal.
