Cosmetic patients today want and expect natural-looking results with minimal down time and minimal risk.
Enter the newly popularized S-Lift technique, a mini-facelift that avoids the overly drawn “wind-tunnel” look of more traditional approaches. The S-Lift provides a lift to the lower
face and neck, and is performed in our office under local anesthesia. Ideal candidates are in good health and have mild to moderate laxity of the skin of the lower face and
neck. The S-Lift is usually performed in conjunction with liposuction of the neck and may be combined with placement of a chin implant, if desired.
The technique begins with injection of a special anesthetic solution (tumescent anesthesia) which
lifts the skin from underlying tissues. If neck liposuction is performed, small incisions are placed beneath the ears and jowls (please see Jowl and Neck Liposuction for more details). Following this, an
“S”-shaped incision is made in front of the ears. Sutures are placed beneath the skin to tighten the lower face and neck areas. Excess skin is removed
and the area is closed with sutures. The scar that results is difficult to detect and there is no scar behind the ears, a telltale sign of traditional facelifting.
You can expect some swelling and bruising but complications are fortunately infrequent. They
include hematoma, infection, nerve damage, skin dimpling or skin loss and unattractive scarring. Dr. Ramsdell will not perform the S-Lift procedure if you
are currently a smoker because the risk of complications rises dramatically in smokers.
Compared with traditional facelifting, S-Lift is safer, with smaller incisions, lower cost and less recovery
time. In cosmetic surgery, sometimes less is more.
