The tumescent technique of liposuction represents a significant advance in the liposuction procedure
that allows the procedure to be performed under local anesthesia. The risks of general anesthesia are avoided, blood loss is minimized, recovery is more rapid, and results are superior.
With tumescent liposuction, a large amount of fluid containing saline, an anesthetic, and an agent to reduce bleeding is infiltrated into the area to be treated. This results in swelling, or
tumescence, of the treatment site. The fat is removed with small metal tubes or cannulas. The technique is virtually painless and patients remain quite comfortable throughout the treatment.
Liposuction is not an appropriate treatment for obesity. Good candidates
for liposuction are those with localized accumulations of fat which are not eliminated by exercise and dieting. Fat cells removed by liposuction do not grow back so the results are
relatively permanent.
What to Expect The procedure is performed in Dr. Ramsdell's office. This provides
considerable cost savings in a more comfortable environment when compared to an outpatient or hospital operating room. Recovery is usually rapid with many patients resuming
mild exercise the day following surgery. Click on the images above to get a closer look at what this procedure can do for you.
